How it works

How to download videos from Telegram

Four steps, from an empty browser to a ZIP of videos on disk.

01

Add the extension

Install the Mastros Telegram extension from the Chrome Web Store. The extension runs in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and any other Chromium-based browser.

02

Open the chat or channel

Go to web.telegram.org and open the chat, group or channel that holds the videos. The extension reads the Telegram Web session already signed in.

03

Pick what to download

Open Media Download in the Mastros panel, say how many recent messages to scan and tick Videos. Each file comes back with its date, sender and size, and you untick anything outside the period you want.

04

Save the ZIP

Start the run. Every matching video downloads from Telegram to the browser and arrives as one ZIP with the original file names kept.

Downloading videos from private Telegram channels

A private channel is private about discovery, not access. Once your account has joined, its media downloads exactly like a public channel's, because the extension reads the Telegram Web session you are already signed into. No tool reaches a channel you have not joined. Anything promising otherwise wants your phone number and login code.

Every kind of media

What the Mastros Telegram extension downloads

The Mastros Telegram extension downloads six kinds of attachment from a Telegram chat. One run can take any mix of them, or just the videos.

Videos

Every video in the chat or channel, saved as the original file Telegram holds, not a compressed preview.

Photos and GIFs

Photos, GIFs and stickers, with their original file names and details kept as they were.

Documents and files

PDFs, archives and every other file type shared in the chat, whatever the extension.

Voice notes and audio

Voice messages, music and audio files, ready to play the moment the ZIP opens.

Media Download is one of five tools in the Mastros Telegram extension. The Telegram scraper also exports members, messages and contacts to Excel.

Honest comparison

Telegram video downloader options compared

Five approaches download videos from Telegram, and each one wins somewhere. Telegram Desktop's own Export chat history is free, official and genuinely good at whole-chat archives. It is the right answer for anyone happy to work from the desktop client. The Mastros Telegram extension is built for the browser instead: it runs on web.telegram.org, filters by media type, lists each file with its date and sender so you can untick what you do not need before anything is kept, and keeps every file on the direct path from Telegram to your own machine.

The other three deserve their caveats. Online paste-a-link tools cannot see a private channel at all, because an anonymous server fetching a t.me address sees exactly what a logged-out visitor sees. GitHub userscripts run locally and cost nothing, which is a real advantage, but they break whenever Telegram Web changes its markup and many are no longer maintained. Downloader bots need each file forwarded by hand, and the forwarded file arrives on the bot operator's server.

Every row states what each approach actually does, including where Telegram's own client is the better tool.

Telegram video downloader APK files and Android apps

A downloader APK from a forum is unsigned code with whatever permissions it asks for, and the ones targeting Telegram want a phone number, a login code or a session file: the account itself, not the video. Mastros is a Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store, and asks for none of them.

Telegram downloader bots compared with the Mastros extension

A bot needs every file forwarded by hand, caps a download at 20 MB on the standard Bot API, and puts the operator's server in the middle of the transfer. The extension downloads a whole channel in one filtered run, straight from Telegram to your browser. A bot is still fine for one occasional file on a phone.

Frequently asked questions

Join the private channel in your own Telegram account, open it on web.telegram.org, then run Media Download in the Mastros panel with Videos ticked. A private channel is private about discovery, not about access: once an account is a member, its media downloads exactly like a public channel's. No tool can reach a private channel the account has not joined, and any service claiming otherwise is either lying or reading a cached public preview.

Open the link in Telegram Web first, then download. Paste a t.me link into the browser, let Telegram Web open that chat or post, and run Media Download on it. The Mastros extension works on the chat Telegram Web has open rather than taking a URL of its own, which is what lets it reach private channels. A paste-a-link service only ever sees what an anonymous visitor sees.

Treat a downloader APK from outside the Play Store as unsafe. An APK sideloaded from a forum or a file host is unsigned code with whatever permissions it asks for, and the ones targeting Telegram routinely ask for a phone number, a login code or a session file, which hands over the account itself, not just the videos. The Mastros Telegram tool is a Chrome extension distributed through the Chrome Web Store, and it never asks for a Telegram password, phone number or login code.

A bot is fine for the occasional single file and poor for anything more. Each file has to be forwarded to the bot by hand, the standard Bot API caps a download at 20 MB, and the forwarded file lands on the bot operator's server, where the operator can read it. The Mastros extension downloads in bulk, keeps the file on the path from Telegram to your own browser, and never forwards anything to a third party.

Telegram caps a single file at 2 GB, or 4 GB with Telegram Premium, and the Mastros extension downloads whatever Telegram Web serves for a message: the same file a manual download produces. A long run is saved as it goes, in several ZIPs of up to 1.5 GB each, so an interruption keeps every part already saved. Downloader bots are the constrained option here: a bot on Telegram's standard cloud Bot API tops out at 20 MB per download, which is why bot-based downloaders fail on video. A self-hosted local Bot API server lifts that to 2 GB, but that is a server you have to run.

No. Downloading only reads, and it happens on your side. Telegram sends no notification to the channel owner or the other members, and the extension never posts, joins, reacts or does anything else another member could see. The one thing that is visible to an admin is membership itself: being in the channel is what the admin already knows.

Yes, on the free plan. Media Download is unlocked on every plan, including Free, where each downloaded file counts as one message against 300 messages a month. Pro is $9 a month for 10,000 and Scale is $18 for 500,000, which is what a whole-channel archive needs. No account is required to start.

No. The Mastros extension works on Telegram Web (web.telegram.org) in Chrome or another Chromium-based browser, and it does not run inside Telegram Desktop or the Android and iOS apps. For a full offline archive from the desktop client, Telegram Desktop's own Export chat history is the right tool, and it is free.

Yes. The extension downloads the actual file attached to each message (the same file a manual download produces) rather than the compressed preview a page displays. File names and details stay as they were. Online paste-a-link services are the ones most likely to re-encode, because the file passes through their servers on the way.

All of them, in the same run. Media Download covers photos, videos, documents, audio files, voice notes, GIFs and stickers, and any combination of those types can be selected for a single run. Everything arrives in one ZIP with the original file names kept.

The extension downloads one file at a time through the Telegram Web session you are signed into, so Telegram paces it like any other download in that tab. A file that does not arrive is left out and counted in the summary at the end, so you know to run again. A long run is saved as it goes, in several ZIPs, so an interruption keeps every part already saved.

Open the chat or channel in Telegram Web and run Media Download in the Mastros panel with Videos ticked. The extension saves the actual file attached to each message, the same file a manual download produces, so it does not depend on the app offering a download button. It works only in chats and channels the signed-in account can already open.

Saving is disabled when the channel admin turns on content protection, and Mastros has no feature for getting around it: the extension downloads only what Telegram Web serves your signed-in account. For a channel without content protection, open it on web.telegram.org, choose Media Download, tick Videos and start the run, and the videos arrive as a ZIP in original quality. Download only from channels you are allowed to see, and respect the rights of whoever made the content.

Join the channel in your own account, open it on web.telegram.org and run Media Download in the Mastros panel. A restricted or private channel is restricted about discovery, not about access for its members: once the account has joined, its media downloads like a public channel's. No tool reaches a channel the account has not joined.

Open the private channel in Telegram Web, choose Media Download, tick Videos and start the run, and the whole channel downloads in one filtered run as a ZIP. The extension reads the Telegram Web session you are already signed into, so it reaches any private channel that account is a member of. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party server on the way.

Works really well and saves me a lot of time when downloading Telegram videos and media. Simple, useful, and easy to use.

Honestly shocked how smooth this is. Zero setup, just open Telegram Web and it reads everything from your session instantly. Pulled member lists and chat messages into Excel without a hitch, even when the group hid its roster. Love that it respects rate limits and saves partial results, so no wasted runs. If you manage communities, this thing saves hours.
