How it works
How to download media from WhatsApp
Four steps, from an empty browser to the files on your computer.
Add the extension
Install the Mastros WhatsApp extension from the Chrome Web Store. The extension runs in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and any other Chromium-based browser.
Open the chat or group
Go to web.whatsapp.com and open the conversation holding the photos, videos or voice notes. Scroll back until the media you want has loaded.
Pick Media Download
Open Media Download in the Mastros panel and start the run. Every run is started by hand. Nothing downloads on its own.
Save your media
The conversation's photos, videos and voice notes download from WhatsApp Web straight to your computer.
Downloading all the videos from a WhatsApp chat
The run that takes the photos takes the videos too: open the chat on web.whatsapp.com, scroll back as far as you need, choose Media Download and start it. Every video the conversation has loaded saves to your computer, with the photos and voice notes beside it. A WhatsApp video downloader extension and a WA media downloader are two names for this one tool; WA is only the short form of WhatsApp.

What the Mastros WhatsApp extension downloads
The Mastros WhatsApp extension downloads the photos, videos, voice notes and audio a conversation holds, in bulk, from the chat you have open, in one run.
Photos
Every photo in the chat or group, saved in bulk instead of one long-press at a time.
Videos
The videos the conversation holds, collected in one run from WhatsApp Web.
Voice notes and audio
Voice messages and audio files, kept together with the chat they came from.
Only the chat you pick
It reads the conversation you have open. You choose what to download, and you start every run yourself.
Media Download is one of four tools in the Mastros WhatsApp extension. The WhatsApp chat exporter also saves group members, contacts and messages to Excel. The Telegram media downloader is the same design on Telegram Web.

Five ways get WhatsApp media out of a chat, and the right one depends on where the work happens. WhatsApp's own Export Chat with media is a genuine bulk path: it produces one ZIP per chat, it is free, and it is built into the app. Its constraint is the phone: the export lives in the mobile app, runs one chat at a time, and hands back an archive to unpack rather than files on a computer.
The Mastros WhatsApp extension is built for the browser. The extension runs on web.whatsapp.com, downloads a conversation's photos, videos and voice notes in one started-by-hand run, and writes them straight to the computer already in front of you. Saving each file by long-press works everywhere and scales to nothing. Status saver apps solve a different problem entirely, and a phone's file manager only ever holds what auto-download already put there.
| What matters | Mastros extension | Saving each file by hand | WhatsApp Export Chat (with media) | Status saver apps | Phone file manager |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bulk download from one chat | One run takes the loaded conversation | One long-press per file | One ZIP per chat, from the phone app | Status updates only, not chats | Only files auto-download already saved |
| Runs on a computer | WhatsApp Web, in the browser | Possible on WhatsApp Web, file by file | The export lives in the phone app | Android app | Android storage, over USB or a file app |
| Covers voice notes and audio | In the same run as photos and video | One at a time | Included in the ZIP | Statuses only | Only what was auto-downloaded |
| No upload to a third-party server | WhatsApp Web to your browser, directly | Straight to your device | You choose where the ZIP goes | Local, but ad SDKs vary by app | Already on the device |
| Needs a phone app installed | Browser extension only | Works on WhatsApp Web too | WhatsApp on the phone | A separate Android app | WhatsApp on the phone |

Other extensions, and where they beat this one
Several free Chrome extensions download WhatsApp media, and on bulk media alone some of them do more than Mastros does today. WhatSave and WhatsSnap both take several chats in one run and both filter by date; WhatsSnap scans a chat's whole history without scrolling back to load it. Mastros does one chat per run, reaching as far back as the conversation has been scrolled. If bulk media out of many chats is the whole job, one of those is the better tool for it.
What Mastros does that they do not: the same extension also exports group members, recent contacts and chat messages as CSV, JSON or JSONL, and the same account covers Telegram Web and LinkedIn. Five WhatsApp media downloaders compared puts all of it in one table, prices and store ratings included.
Downloading all photos from one WhatsApp chat
WhatsApp Web loads a conversation in pieces, and the extension reads what it has already rendered. Open the chat, scroll back to the point in the history you care about, then start Media Download: the photos on screen and above it come down together. A group works the same way.
Downloading WhatsApp voice notes and audio
Voice notes come down in the same run as the photos and videos, grouped with the chat they came from. Once they are files in a folder they can be played in any player, sent to a transcription tool or attached to a case file, none of which WhatsApp allows while the recording sits in a chat bubble.
WhatsApp status savers and what this extension does instead
This is not a status saver. Those are Android apps reading the local cache WhatsApp writes when a status is viewed, and that cache clears after 24 hours. Media Download works on conversations instead: the photos, videos and voice notes inside a chat, which stay until someone deletes them.
Whether the sender knows a WhatsApp download happened
WhatsApp sends no download notification, and the extension adds nothing visible: it never messages, forwards, reacts or joins, because it cannot write to WhatsApp at all. Read receipts and view-once media behave exactly as they always do.
What you get
It works on your computer, and it never does anything on its own.
Bulk, not one by one
One run collects the media from the chat you have open. No tapping through months of messages.
It runs in your browser
The files go straight from WhatsApp Web to your computer. Nothing passes through Mastros servers.
It only reads
No messages sent, no auto-replies, no API, no password. It reads the session you are already signed into.
One panel, four tools
Media Download sits next to the group member, chat message and contact exporters, in the same Mastros panel.
Works where WhatsApp Web works
Any chat, group or conversation you can open in WhatsApp Web on your computer.
Only what you can already see
It saves the media your own WhatsApp shows you. It cannot recover deleted files or open other people's chats.

I tested the extension and everything I tried worked smoothly chat messages exported successfully to csv, group members were well organized, and media was downloaded into a zip file i especially liked that it can find a member’s profile name when it isn’t shown in the group.
Its main limitation is important: it can only export data that WhatsApp Web has already loaded and displayed. It cannot reveal hidden phone numbers, access chats you don't have permission to view, or retrieve an entire conversation beyond the currently loaded history. It is also read-only—it doesn't send messages, add contacts, or automate WhatsApp actions.
I needed to pull our massive community member list into a spreadsheet for our new CRM, and this tool perfectly extracted hundreds of contacts with zero setup or messy API keys.
