How do you calculate TikTok engagement rate?

Two formulas, and on TikTok the difference matters more than anywhere else:

By views: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100

By followers: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100

TikTok's For You feed shows videos to people who do not follow the account, so a viral video can have more interactions than the account has followers and the by-followers rate can pass 100%. Brand benchmark reports (Rival IQ, Socialinsider) still divide by followers to compare accounts; for a single video, divide by views. The calculator shows both.

What is my TikTok engagement rate?

For one video, the calculator above with its public counts. For an account, average the last 10 to 20 videos. Your own analytics (Creator tools, Analytics) show views, likes, comments, shares and saves per video; for anyone else's account the public numbers are views, likes, comments and shares, which is enough for both formulas. To get the rate for every video on a profile at once, the Mastros TikTok extension reads the video grid and exports views, likes, comments, shares and both rates per video to CSV, JSON or JSONL; the CSV opens in Excel and Google Sheets.

What is a good TikTok engagement rate?

What is considered a good TikTok engagement rate for e-commerce accounts?

Shop-focused accounts sit near the brand median, around 2% by followers, because product videos earn fewer likes per view than entertainment. The number that matters for a Shop account is conversion, so read engagement by views on the videos with product tags and compare them with each other rather than with a creator's rate. For affiliates, brands pick on engagement rate by views; above 4% on product videos is a strong pitch.

TikTok engagement rate vs Instagram

Same formula, different platform behaviour. Instagram shows posts mostly to followers, so its by-followers rates are low (0.3% to 0.5% median for brands). TikTok shows videos to anyone, so its by-followers rates are high and its by-views rate is the fairer per-video number. A creator at 2% on Instagram and 2% on TikTok is strong on the first and average on the second. Use the Instagram engagement rate calculator for the Instagram side.

I tested the extension and everything I tried worked smoothly chat messages exported successfully to csv, group members were well organized, and media was downloaded into a zip file i especially liked that it can find a member’s profile name when it isn’t shown in the group.
