You cannot find an Instagram account by email through Instagram. There is no search by email address, the app's contact-sync suggestions no longer surface a specific person from an address you type, and Instagram never tells one user which email another user signed up with. What still works is indirect: Facebook search, your phone's contact sync, and person-search services, each of which finds an account only when the same address was published somewhere else.
This is a trust post rather than a product one. Mastros makes an Instagram Email Finder that goes the other direction, from a list of accounts to the addresses they published in their bios, and it cannot do the reverse either. Saying so plainly is the point.
Why can't Instagram search by email?
The email on an account is a login credential, and Instagram treats it that way: it is never displayed to other users, it is not indexed, and the search box matches usernames and names only. Instagram's own help pages on this topic are about recovering your account when you have lost the email, which is the one case Instagram supports.
For years the workaround was contact syncing. You saved an address to your phone's contacts, opened Discover people, and Instagram suggested the matching account. Meta has tightened that flow over time, and today a typed-in address reliably surfaces a specific person only when that person allowed their account to be found by contact information and you are already in their circle in some way. It is no longer a lookup; it is a suggestion engine.
What still works, and how far
1. Contact sync in the Instagram app
- Save the email address as a contact on your phone.
- In Instagram, open your profile, then the menu, then Discover people (or Follow and invite friends → Follow contacts).
- Allow contact syncing if it is off, and look at the suggestions.
- Turn syncing back off afterwards if you do not want Instagram holding your address book.
Works when the person allowed discovery by contact information and their address is on the account. Fails silently otherwise: no suggestion means nothing, not "no account".
2. Facebook search
- Type the email address into Facebook's search box.
- If a profile is tied to that address and its privacy settings allow lookup by email, it appears.
- Check the profile for a linked Instagram account, often in the Contact and basic info section or as a cross-posted link.
Works because Meta accounts are linked and Facebook's email lookup is a setting people forget to turn off. Fails when they did turn it off, or never linked Instagram.
3. A Google search for the address
- Search the address in quotes.
- Look for pages where the person published it alongside a handle: a website footer, a media kit, a LinkedIn profile, a conference speaker page.
Works for people with a public presence beyond Instagram. Finds nothing for a private individual, which is the right outcome.
4. A person-search service
BeenVerified, Social Catfish, SignalHire and similar services match an address against records they hold from public sources, marketing lists and breaches, and return social profiles they associate with it. This reaches furthest and is the least reliable per hit: a match is a probabilistic guess, and a wrong one is someone else's account.
Paid, and worth using only when you have a legitimate reason and will verify the match before acting on it.
What only works for your own account
If the account you are trying to find is yours, Instagram supports it directly.
- On the login screen tap Forgot password?
- Enter the email address. If an account uses it, Instagram sends a reset link to that address.
- Follow the link; the username is shown on the way in.
A reset email arriving is the confirmation. Nothing arriving means no account uses that address, or the address was changed.
What is a scam
- "Instagram lookup by email" sites that ask you to log in with Instagram. They are collecting your credentials. Instagram never delegates a lookup to a third-party login.
- Tools that promise the login email of any account. Instagram shows that to nobody. A tool claiming it either has breach data, which is a different product with its own legal problems, or is lying.
- Free lookups that require a card "for verification". The card is the product.

Who this is not for
- Anyone trying to identify the person behind an anonymous or fake account. None of the methods here do that, and the ones that claim to are the scams above. Report the account to Instagram instead; impersonation and harassment have a reporting path.
- Anyone who wants to search Instagram by email at scale. It does not exist as a product, and a service offering it is matching third-party records, not Instagram.

Can I find someone's Instagram with their email?
Not through Instagram. Contact sync in the app can suggest the account if the person allowed discovery by contact information; Facebook search can surface a linked profile; a Google search finds it only for people who published both together. There is no reliable direct lookup.
How do I find all Instagram accounts associated with an email?
You cannot from outside. Instagram shows the accounts tied to an address only to the person who can receive mail at it, through the Forgot password? flow. If it is your address, use that flow; if it is not, there is no path.
Can I trace an Instagram account?
